Attractive debut match actually turned out to be tense

The tournament opened with a match of the “B” subgroup teams between Serbia and the Faroe Islands.

The first half of the match was actually point by point and neither team was able to gain an advantage. Except for the 1 or 2 goal advances, which were usually soon eliminated by the opposing team. Despite the scenario of the game, at the end of the half, the Serbian team managed to gain a certain playing advantage. That was finally recorded by the scoreboard and the first half of the match ended 14-12.

In the second half of the match, the Faroe Islands gained a playing advantage, which was manifested in precise offensive action and compact play in defense. First managed to equalize the score, and then went ahead with a 2-ball advantage. The handicap was maintained by the Faroe Islands girls’ team almost until the last minutes of the game. But at the end of the game the Serbian team managed to mobilize the last forces. The managed to equalize the score thanks to the good play of the goalkeeper and precise action in the attack.

At the end of the match, Faroe’s team could not use the free throw after the end of the game minutes. The match ended with a draw score of 26:26.

1) How would you rate the game?

PALSDOTTIR NÓLSOY Maria (Faroe Island):

It was really good game. But also it was annoying that we didn’t win, Because we were very close to winning.

OLSEN Simon (Head coach of Faroe island):

It was our first match. And it wasn’t easy, especially with Serbia. So i’m very proud of our players.

CVETKOVIC Anja (Serbia):

It was very hard. Our girls were very tired. I’m sure that we didn’t do our best and could have played better.

TIJANIC Zoran (Head coach of Serbia):

It was our first game with this generation. And it was very big challenge. We played pretty good. But we did lost the ball few times when we shouldn’t have. And the opponent team was well prepared too.

2) What were your expectations before the game?

PALSDOTTIR NÓLSOY Maria (Faroe Island):

We wanted to win but we didn’t have very high expectations. We knew the other team was strong too.

OLSEN Simon (Head coach of Faroe island):

We were expecting that this would be a hard match. Because Serbia is one of the best teams down here. But we believed that we could win.

CVETKOVIC Anja (Serbia):

We sure wanted and expected to win. But girls from Faroe Island were really great and brave.

TIJANIC Zoran (Head coach of Serbia):

We of course planned and expected to win. But when it’s about game you never know what happens.
